Stupidity and Royal Self-Entitlement Sunk Andrew, and It Could Continue Yet

This episode commenced with a isolated photograph, possibly the most significant ever snapped of a member of the monarchy.

There stood the Earl of Inverness, with his arm around a teenage girl, while an associate smiled conspiratorially in the rear.

Absent that image, taken at a gathering in 2001, few would have credited the allegations of a adolescent who said she was trafficked across the Atlantic and obliged to have cursory relations with a prince of the royal family?

A strange, indicative gesture by someone who had publicly asserted to have not known about her, asserted he could not have had relations with her, and yet provided a large amount of monarchical money to avert a drawn-out lawsuit.

A Long Period of Disgrace

In this context, talk of the monarchy acting decisively to distance themselves from Andrew are wide of the mark. This scandal has persisted for the largest portion of 15 years since that image, and a further snapshot of Andrew ambling amiably with a convicted sex offender surfaced.

  • Self-importance: For what duration did his siblings, maybe even his parents, understand that Andrew was so self-entitled?
  • Questionable Associations: They must have understood, if his employees and the law enforcement were performing their duties, that he had some extremely unsavory friends given he unabashedly welcomed them to palaces.
  • Fiscal Irresponsibility: If the household did not know about his personal conduct, they certainly knew about his extravagance with state resources.

Journeys were printed in royal annual reports: chopper transfers from the royal residence to a golf course and back again in time for dining, exclusive air travel instead of commercial flights, all for the benefit of "the travel enthusiast".

World of Deference

Additionally the presumption which required subservience when he entered a room or the extreme obsession about his designations used on his official documents in messages to his friends.

He managed to escape consequences while his matriarch, who inexplicably pampered him, was still living. The Queen did at least strip him of official roles and military positions in the aftermath of his catastrophic and, as revealed, mendacious media appearance six years ago.

Recent Developments

Merely in the last fortnight that events accelerated, following the issuance of accounts giving more disturbing particulars of his conduct and that of his connections.

Additional revelations have again revealed Andrew's assumption that he could escape lying about his relationship with a disgraced individual.

People (and the journalists) were far ahead of the royal family. There was nobody of any significance to support him, a result of all those years of hubris.

Institutional Fears

The wiser family members recognized that. The primary concern is to pass on the crown, if not as before at least complete and unstained.

Over time the last 190 years trying to overcome the image of earlier rulers, demonstrating they are valuable, responsible and attentive to their citizens.

His actions endangered all that in danger in an era when deference and discretion is no longer adequate.

The Fallout

Finally, the famously uncertain monarch was prodded more. There was no alternative. The palace had lost control of the account.

Presently the stripping of honorifics and the persistent and life-long public humiliation that will afflict Andrew most deeply.

  • Reduction: Demoted to just a commoner
  • Prior Instance: The primary monarch to lose his titles in contemporary era
  • Military Service: Notably stinging given his service in the engagement

He remains a counsellor of state, theoretically able to substitute for the monarch, and he is still eighth in line to the monarchy, but not any of these will actually happen.

Future Prospects

Will people he encounters still acknowledge him? Might they still slip up and call him Prince? Would they say Mr,

Naturally, he is not retiring to an ordinary town, but to the sovereign's extensive property at a monarchical property.

There, he will be furnished by the monarch with one of the grace and favour houses and given some sort of personal stipend.

This is not his previous residence, where he paid a minimal rent for more than 20 years, and the area is a bit distant, but even so it may not be adequate distance.

Pending Matters

The situation continues. There are still files in the custody of US Congress to be made public.

  • Political Pressure: Will parliament demand more
  • Monetary Probe: Or examine the misuse of state resources
  • Judicial Potential: There may even be a criminal probe into his behavior

Perhaps for the time being the reputational impact to the institution is restricted. The statement from the palace was clearly that the removal of designations was what the sovereign, and notably other senior royals, desired.

A Shift in Position

The cessation of deception that Andrew was doing it voluntarily. And, notably, the concise statement showed evidently that the institution were aligning with the victim's version of incidents.

Even more, for the first time they ultimately showed consideration for the victims: "These actions are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him."

Finally it is arrogance, selfishness and indolence that will kill the crown. In his foolishness, personal excess and corruption, Andrew appears never to have grasped that reality.
