Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, is known as a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its leading forwards. According to reports, the formalities for the transfer are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a significant uplift to the team's forward line. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when United seem to be gathering momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes include securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

On Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can sense how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the Champions League.”
