Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Bahrain, as the country executed operations across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing attack against it by the United States and Israeli forces.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any damage is unclear and the United States has remained silent.
In other parts of the Middle East, the UAE, the State of Qatar and the State of Kuwait - which all house US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In Doha, Qatar's defence ministry said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard stated it was attacking US bases and assets as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic carried out by the US and Israel on Saturday.
That preceding assault - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far focused on sites associated with the the regime, with President Trump calling on the people of Iran to revolt against the government.
In Israel, air raid sirens sounded nationwide after the Israeli military stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The Ministry of Defence of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with great effectiveness and shot down a number of missiles," the statement continued.
It said debris landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some property damage and fatalities.
The US Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of Abu Dhabi, along with the UAE Air Force.
