A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Pardoned by Miami-Dade Mayor.

It might not have been at the same level as pardoning holiday birds, but the Miami-Dade County mayor conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of executive clemencies issued since the onset of a new presidential term.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to emulate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The animal, donated by a first responder, was named for the modern linguistic fad of young people exclaiming “six-seven” – inspired by a hip-hop line – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its top term for the year.

A New Life

This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.

“It represents the essence of Miami: joyful, diverse, and based in heritage that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
